Carnegie Hall

Carnegie Hall

On the way to Scotland during his honeymoon, Andrew Carnegie met and became friends with the young conductor Walter Damrosch who had just finished his second year of practice as the conductor of The Symphony Society of New York City. Mr. Damrosch kept speaking of the need to create the music hall in New York City. His vision was that such a place would become the world center of classical and popular music. The official opening of Carnegie Hall took place in May 1891 with the concert of the New York Symphony Orchestra.

Frank Sinatra, Liza Minelli, Enrico Caruso, Plácido Domingo, Mstislav Rostropovich, Vladimir Spivakov and many others great talents had the honor to perform at Carnegie Hall.
