The aircraft carrier Intrepid is located in midtown Manhattan, on the Hudson River (12th Avenue and 46th Street, Pier 86). Today it is a sea, air and space museum. Very interesting place to visit for both adults and children. You can spend almost an entire day here.
The USS Intrepid was active in World War II, and later during the war in Vietnam. The museum is huge and includes the following exhibitions:
Aircrafts: these are not just American, but also aircrafts from around the world, the exhibition features aircrafts from the Second World War and up to the 1980s
The aircraft carrier: explore the carrier from the inside, see how the cabin, captain’s bridge and other parts looked
Growler submarine: today there is an opportunity to go inside the strategic submarine, which patrolled the waters of the Pacific Ocean from 1958 to 1964, being in constant readiness against a possible attack from the Soviet Union
Concorde: the famous supersonic aircraft is mounted on the carrier and open to the public (for an additional fee)
An interactive presentation that talks about the mankind’s achievements in space
Flight simulators: get thrilled by flying a fighter plane simulator with the ability to turn 360 degrees.
