Lincoln Center New York, New York 10023
The Metropolitan Opera was founded in 1883. The first opera house was located on Broadway and 39th Street. Almost from the outset it was clear that the building did not meet the high standards for the opera acoustics, but is was only in 1966 that the new opera building was built.
Today, The Metropolitan Opera is one of the best opera houses in the world. In addition to the excellent acoustics, in 1995 the Metropolitan Opera added another convenient feature for its visitors, having installed screens that provide simultaneous translation if the opera was not written in the listener's language. The screens are individual for everyone, and they are set in such a way that they don’t distract other spectators.
